With well over 1 million blogs currently on the internet and growing daily, how can you make sure yours doesn’t fall behind? What steps should you be taking to make sure your blog is getting daily visitors? Some blog basics along with a little schmoozing could make all the difference.
Make it unique? Regardless of your motivation for blogging, if you want it to be read you need great content. Make sure that your users are excited and find value in your content. Give them something to to talk about, comment on or share with their friends. The fresher and more unique your content, the more likely it is they will return for more.
Be your blogs very own town crier. Once your blog, complete with great content, has been created let everyone know about it! Send out an email to family, friends and colleagues with a link and ask them to share. Post a link on Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn - Let the masses know about it any way you can.
Work the “it takes a village” mentality. Do some searching and find other well written blogs within your space that could use a bump in visitors. Post a comment on their blog and invite them to be a guest blogger on yours. Every person they tell about their guest post becomes a visitor to your blog – and a possible follower.
Run with the big dogs. Seek out bigger blogs with good rankings in your space. Follow them and see what their readers like and don’t like and what they respond well to. Leave witty, intelligent comments to a number of posts and follow them up with a short yet well written email to the blogger with some guest blog ideas. If accepted, you get the opportunity to capture some of their visitors to your own blog via a link at the end of your guest post.
Make them beg for more. Once you have ramped up to 200+ visitors per day, give them some incentive for coming back and sharing your blog site. Have a drawing or a give-away that your visitors will want to share with their friends. It is amazing what social sharing can do for the number of hits a site receives.
