Trends in Social Media

Social media guru Jeff Bullas predicts some trends in the field on his blog.

"Social Mobile"
Smart phones with high speed Internet have altered society. Facebook and Twitter apps let people interact with their social networks from anywhere.

"Socialization of Search"
Increasingly, Google and Bing take social networks into account (social signals) when tweaking their search algorithms.

"Geo-Targeting of Social Media Marketing"
Smart phones also allow for local "check-in" applications like FourSquare and Google Places. Location-based marketing is now possible.

"Social Commerce"
You can now shop on social networks like Facebook without leaving the site.

"Social Gaming"
Easy to use games integrated into social networks have started to generate significant revenue from casual players.

"Global Magazine Super Blogs"
Traditional print media, and their online presences, receive far less traffic than global blogs like the Huffington Post. Blogs on a variety of topics attract millions of readers each month.

"Global Micro Niche Business"
Geography, technology and distance no longer restrict niche industries, which can now become multi-million dollar businesses. Even more so than the Internet, social networks enable this success.
